Bobby Batson will oversee Vertex Group's cloud-based utility software application business

DALLAS, Aug. 19, 2019 -- Vertex Group today announced that Robert “Bobby” Batson has joined the company as chief operating officer. Batson will serve as a key member of the executive team, reporting directly to CEO Andrew Jornod. Batson joined Vertex to support its market leadership in providing utility clients with cloud-based software solutions for their most important business processes, most notably  customer care and billing.

Batson has spent more than two decades serving the utility industry and began his career as a utility Customer Information System (CIS) software developer. More recently, Batson co-founded and served as chief operating officer of Five Point Partners, a 250-person professional services firm servicing the utility industry. Batson oversaw the acquisition of Five Point by Ernst & Young (EY) in 2014 and subsequently served as a partner in EY’s Power & Utility practice.

Earlier in his career, Batson was a partner and chief financial officer of Capstone Consulting Partners, a boutique consulting firm focused on the utility industry. Capstone Consulting Partners was later acquired by Alliance Data Systems, a predecessor company to Vertex.

"We are thrilled to have Bobby join Vertex. His experience operating middle-market technology-focused businesses and managing and scaling through growth will be key to Vertex as we continue to refine our strategy and expand our offerings," said Andrew Jornod, CEO of Vertex. "We have a strong backlog and growing pipeline, and as such, it is imperative that we have the right leadership in place to support this growth; it is critical to our success."

Vertex was recently awarded Best CIS Implementation during CS Week in April 2019 for rapid implementation of its VertexOne™ platform for utility provider DC Water. Vertex has a proven track record of transforming and operating customer care and billing operations for North American electric, water and gas utilities.

In his role, Batson will support Vertex's overall company operations, and will build on the company’s strong track record of operational excellence in serving the utility industry. Additionally, Batson will be responsible for working with executive management to ensure the competitiveness of Vertex’s software and service offerings and, when applicable, launch and/or acquire new products and services.

"I believe we have now reached a tipping point in both the utility and technology industries which will drive massive transformation in how we generate power, optimally deliver utility commodities and technologically run utility businesses," said Batson. "Renewable energy, reliable water delivery and cloud computing will each have a profound effect on the utility industry over the next 20 years and I am excited to be working for a company like Vertex that is poised to play a major role in solving the challenges of a quickly evolving industry.

Batson received a master's degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama.
